Zelma Louise Goodwin

February 14, 1929 — May 29, 2013

Zelma Goodwin, age 84, went to be with her Lord on May 29, 2013.

There will be a service of remembrance at Munden Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, June 3, 2013 at 11:00am. Rev. Paul Harris will officiate. Family will receive friends the hour preceding the service. Interment will follow at Over the Brook Cemetery in Atlantic.

Born on February 14, 1929, Zelma grew up on Cedar Island and Portsmouth and moved to Atlantic in 1948. She lived her entire life Down-East and was proud of being a “Hightider.” Zelma worked at Fulcher’s Fish House when she was young. She loved driving around the community visiting friends and relatives. She enjoyed attending family reunions and visiting Ocracoke and Portsmouth Islands. Among her hobbies were shell collecting and wood carving, especially decoys.

She is survived by her brother “Buddy,” Wilbur Sterling Goodwin, Jr. and his wife, Doris, nieces Julie G. Henry and Tina G. Fortner, and nephew Eddie Goodwin, all from Charlotte. She is also survived by many cousins, most of whom still reside Down East.

Zelma was preceded in death by her loving parents, Daisy Lupton and Wilbur S. Goodwin, Sr.

The family gives special thanks to Jo Anne and Richard Styron, Jim Goodwin, LuAnn Taylor, Janet Morgan, Nena Hancock, and all the staff at Taylor Extended Care, now Heritage Healthcare at Taylor Place, Sea Level. Thank you to family and friends who showed great loving kindness and attention to Zelma and it is most appreciated.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Core Sound Waterfowl Museum & Heritage Center, P.O. Box 556 • Harkers Island, NC 28531.
