Woodrow “Woodie” Wilson Wiles, Jr., age 86, passed away peacefully at the SECU Crystal Coast Hospice House in Newport, NC on August 21, 2024.
He was born on July 10, 1938, in Wilkes County, NC to the late Woodrow Wilson Wiles, Sr. and Mary Garris Wiles.
He is survived by his loving wife, Pat Harris Wiles of the home; son Woodrow “Chip” Wilson Wiles, III of Winston Salem, NC; granddaughter, Kelcie Wiles of Wilmington NC.; brother, Eddie Lewis Wiles (Meg) of Crumpler NC.; stepsons, Kerry Wagoner (Deborah) of Swansboro, NC; and Avery Wagoner (Rebecca) of Burlington, NC; five step-grandchildren, Aunt, Rosa Lee Mathis of Roaring Gap NC; two nieces, one nephew, cousins and a host of friends.
Woodie graduated from Elkin High School where he was an outstanding athlete especially in track. He attended Wingate College. He was a veteran having served in the U.S. Army. He retired from RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company after 33 years of service.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He especially loved fishing Helton Creek to the New River in Ashe County. He continued his love of fishing after moving to Beaufort, NC in 2005 where he spent some of his happiest years and made many lasting friendships.
His remains will be cremated and buried at Elkin Valley Baptist Church in Elkin NC. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, September 6, 2024.
A celebration of his life will be held at a later date in Beaufort, NC.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the SECU Crystal Coast Hospice House, PO Box 640, Newport NC 28570.
The docks will not be the same without him.
