William "Tom" Thomas Wingfield

William “Tom” Thomas Wingfield, 71, of Newport, died February 17, 2018 at his home.

A graveside service will be held Friday, February 23, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. at Gethsemane Memorial Park in Newport, NC with Reverend Charlie Smith officiating.

Tom graduated from Appalachian State University with a bachelor’s degree in business. He honorably served his country in the United States Army including a tour of duty in Vietnam. He had a long and successful career in the textile industry which culminated in retiring from Burlington Industries and Thomaston Mills as a Plant Manager. He enjoyed the water while fishing on his boat. He loved his wife, sons, grandson, and little dogs.

He is survived by his sons, Chris Wingfield and his wife Elaina of Grimesland, NC and Jamie Wingfield of Newport, NC; grandson, William Marshall Wingfield, Brother Johnny Wingfield of Tobaccoville, NC; sister Carolyn Wingfield Smith and husband Charlie Smith of Havelock, NC; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife of thirty years, Marcia Garrison Wingfield; his parents, Garland and Evelyn Wingfield, and sister-in-law, Shirley Wingfield

In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to be sent to the National Stroke Association, 9707 East Easter Lane, Suite B, Centennial, CO 80112.
