William "Derby" Durwood Daniels Jr., 70, of Davis, passed away Friday, April 17, 2020, at Carteret Health Care in the company of his wife and children
Due to the restrictions of the Covid-19 guidelines, a funeral service will not be held at this time. The family will arrange a private service at a later date to celebrate Derby's life.
Derby was born on November 22, 1949, in Southport, NC, the youngest son of William “Dee” Durwood Daniels Sr. and Robbie Woodside Daniels. He grew up in Southport, NC, graduated from West Carteret High School, and attended East Carolina University prior to serving in the US Navy as a Quartermaster during the Vietnam War.
After his honorable discharge from the Navy in 1975, Derby returned to Carteret County where he met Jo Ann, and they were married on August 14, 1976. Derby was a professional land surveyor and was self-employed from 1980 until his passing. He was an avid musician and enjoyed playing with friends and family. Derby will be remembered as a kind and gentle man who was loved and respected by all those who knew him. Derby was a beloved husband, brother, father, and grandfather
Derby is survived by his beloved family, wife, Jo Ann Daniels of Davis; daughter, Shannan Daniels of Fuquay-Varina; son, Richard Kaydos-Daniels and wife Neely currently of Ethiopia; brother, Bob Daniels and wife Mary of Fort Lauderdale, FL; grandchildren, Zachary Barnes, Tyler Young, Sylvia and Lucy Kaydos-Daniels; and great-grandchildren; Jessica Barnes, Savannah Michelle Barnes.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Robbie Daniels Scholarship Endowment at St. Peter's United Methodist Church, 111 Hodges St, Morehead City, NC 28557.
