William "Billy" L. Stanley

William “Billy” L. Stanley, 72, of Hardy, Virginia, passed away Thursday, June 13, 2019 at Carteret Health Care in Morehead City, North Carolina.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 20, 2019, at Oakey’s Vinton Chapel in Vinton, Virginia.

Billy grew up in Vinton, Virginia where he enjoyed high school wrestling. He honorably served in the United States Army before starting a  career with the U.S. Postal Service as a rural mail carrier. He retired after over 25 years as a civil servant. Billy enjoyed his retirement by working outside on his farm and spending time at the beach in his second home in Cape Carteret, North Carolina. He will be remembered for working hard to help others and loving his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his significant other of over 22 years, Liz Moore; daughter, Kelly Stanley of Bedford, VA; son, Tim Stanley and wife Dana of Roanoke, VA; sisters, Betty Hall of Fincastle, VA and Ann Divers of Bedford, VA; grandchildren, Jessica Stanley, Aaron Stanley and Sarah Stanley; and many loving nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Glennie Stanley; sister, Shirley Colbert; and brothers, Johnny Stanley and Phillip Stanley.
