William "Billy" Shade Smith, Sr.

William “Billy” Shade Smith, Sr., 72, peacefully went to be with his Lord, surround by his loving family, on Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at Kindred Hospital in Greensboro.

Billy was born and raised in Carteret County. He honorably served in the US Coast Guard. He was a devoted husband, proud father, loving grandfather and uncle. Billy loved Coca-Cola and NASCAR especially Dale Earnhardt, Sr. He fought a good fight for eight months and will be greatly missed.

A funeral service for Billy will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, March 18, 2017 at Crystal Coast Worship Center with the reverend Bobby Howard officiating. Interment will follow at Gethsemane Memorial Park.

Billy is survived by his loving wife Joann Pittman Smith of the home; son, William Shade Smith, Jr. and wife Heidi of Roxboro; step-son, Chris Smith and wife Gena of Salter Path; sister Donna Devaney; 8 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; many special nieces and nephews.

Billy is preceded in death by his parents Shade and Sally White Smith.

A visitation for Billy will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Friday, March 17, 2017 at Munden Funeral Home.
