William Richard "Bill" Degen, Sr., 69, of Harkers Island, peacefully went to be with Jesus Wednesday, August 8, 2012, at Carteret General Hospital.
A funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Sunday at The Refuge Fellowship Church with Rev. Manley Rose, Jr., and Rev. Clinton Nelson officiating. Interment will follow at Vergie Mae Cemetery.
Bill was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He served in the USMC and was stationed at Camp Lejeune. He was a faithful and dedicated member of The Refuge Fellowship Church for over 30 years, where he served as a deacon, sound technician, secretary and treasurer of the men's fellowship, and many other duties. He was born in Philadelphia, PA and moved to Harkers Island in 1979. Bill was a ship loader at the NC State Port for over 30 years.
All throughout Bill's illness, he continued to keep his faith in his Lord and Savior. All who knew him only saw a kind and meek spirit. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Cinda Y. Degen: four daughters, April Chadwick and husband Eugene of Gloucester, Bonnie Taylor and husband Eddie of Harkers Island, Lorie Player and husband Robbie of Rocky Point, and Yvonne Lopez and husband Ruben of Wilmington: two sons, William R. Degen Jr., and fiance Diana of Holly Ridge, and Manley Rose Jr., and wife Jean of Beaufort: father, Edward F. Degen Sr. of California: two sisters, Mary C. Fiume and husband Tony of PA, Joanne C. Carr of PA: two brothers, Robert Degen and wife Cathy of PA, and Don Degen of FL: eight grandchildren, Celeste, BreAnna, and Tyler Degen, Alex and Kyle Chadwick, Correna and Rachel Rose, and Leah Taylor: and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his step father and mother, John and Dorothy Condon, and a brother, Edward Degen Jr.
Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 pm Saturday at The Refuge Fellowship Church.
