Mr. William Donald “Bill” Abell, 62, of Morehead City, died Saturday, September 28, 2013.
Funeral will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 1, 2013 in the chapel of Munden Funeral Home officiated by Rev. Ben Horton and Rev. James Chadwick. Interment will follow at Gethsemane Memorial Park Cemetery.
Bill grew up in Carteret County and graduated from West Carteret High School in 1969 and Fairfax Community College, in Virginia, in 1971. He had worked at Embers Beach Club and various other beach clubs in Atlantic Beach, and had worked as a construction superintendant for L.A. Downey & Sons and Downey and Associates in Durham for over 20 years. He most recently had worked as a cost estimator at Cherry Point for the last five years. Bill loved fishing and hunting and was involved in numerous community programs including Take A Kid Fishing, the Carteret County Sports Fisherman Association, Ducks Unlimited, and was a proud member of the NRA.
He is survived by his father, Thomas “Tom” Abell, of the home; four brothers: Gary Abell, of Morehead City, Dennis Abell, of Rocky Mount, Tim Abell, of Morehead City, and Richard Abell and wife, Ralphen, of Morehead City; five nieces: Amanda Abell, Amber Rochelle and husband, Keith, Carey Baillargeon, Dana Abell, and Olivia “Taylor” Abell; two great nieces: Pier and Kennedy; and five great nephews: Porter,Carson, Ayden, Conner, and Carter. He was preceded in death by his mother, Olivia Walker Abell.
The family will receive friends Monday night, September 30, 2013, from 6 until 8 at the funeral home.
