William “Bill” Ward, 75 of Morehead City, NC, passed away Thursday, February 27, 2025, at Duke University Hospital in Durham.
A memorial service to honor Bill’s life will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, March 10, at First Methodist Church, officiated by Rev. Powell Osteen and Rev. Patrick Whaley. The family will receive friends in the church atrium one hour prior to the service.
Born December 9, 1949, in Elizabeth City, NC, Bill was the son of the late John and Elizabeth “Lib” Ward. He was a well-known figure in our community having dedicated numerous years working with the NC Community College System as a graphics artist and audio-visual technician, the local cable television station as Program Director, and finally Carteret-Craven Electric Cooperative as Director of Community Relations.
Bill was a faithful member of First Methodist Church where he contributed his time running the television ministry for many years. Always enjoying being active in his community, he served as President of Elks Lodge 1710 and evening Rotary Club and was proud to have received Rotarian of the Year three times. Bill also participated on local boards as a director including Habitat for Humanity, NC Seafood Festival, Partnership for Children, and the Chamber of Commerce. Twice he was bestowed the Governor’s Award for Volunteer Service. Because family was always so important to Bill, he was also involved in youth sports, scouts, and other volunteer efforts while his children were small.
Having a great passion for photography, Bill was always eager to capture special moments and could often be seen with his camera bag on his shoulder. He also enjoyed reading, traveling, and taking walks on the beach.
Bill will be remembered as a devoted husband of 51 years, a wonderful father, and a proud grandfather.
Those remaining to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Margie; daughter, Sharon Tompkins (RJ) of Franklinton, NC; sons, Peter Ward (Michaela) of Blue Springs, MO and Marty Ward of Newport, NC; sister, Jonetta Long (Milton) of Hertford, NC; brother, Stanley Ward (Suzette) of South Mills, NC; grandchildren, Zach Tompkins (Sidney), Randall Ward, Remington Ward, Marley Ward, and Madison Ward; and his cuddly cats, Theo and Izzy.
As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N Michigan Ave., Floor 17, Chicago IL 60601 or the Parkinson’s Foundation, 1359 Broadway, Suite 1509, New York, NY 10018.
