William Merle Sawyer

William Merle Sawyer, 68, of Havelock, passed away on Wednesday, December 19, 2018, at the Gardens of Trent Nursing Facility.

The family will have a time of fellowship and refreshment at Jean’s in Havelock, NC at 3 p.m. on Sunday, December 30, 2018.

William was born and raised in Pamlico County and graduated from Pamlico High in 1971. He was the manager of maintenance for Highland Country Estates Mobile Home Park and was a Lieutenant with the Spring Lakes Fire Department, Station 13. He was a lifetime member of Future Farmers of America and actively helped his children as they progress through the program. He was a sarcastic, but lovable, guy that will be missed by his children, grandchildren, and those that knew him.

William is survived by his daughter, Maggie Doll and partner, John Colquhoun of Havelock, NC; son, Dave Sawyer of Havelock, NC; former wife and mother of his children, Doris Goodwin Sawyer of Jacksonville; brothers, Randolph Mitchell, Monty Dewitt, Thomas Sawyer, and Jackie Sawyer; sisters, Patricia Ann Dail, and Goldie Wells; and grandchildren, Jeffrey Doll, Tessa Sheppard, Annie Clark, Dillon Sawyer, and Katelyn Ridley.

William is preceded in death by his daughter, Carol Ann Sawyer; parents, Daniel and Goldie Sawyer; and brother, Johnny Sawyer.
