William Finley O'Neal
October 29, 1928 — January 17, 2017
William F. O'Neal "Finn", 88, of Broad Creek, N.C. went home to be with his Lord in the early hours of January 17, 2017.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, January 21, 2017, at Broad Creek United Methodist Church with Pastor Ben Ball and Pastor Paul Harris officiating. Interment to follow the service at Gethsemane Memorial Park.
Born in October of 1928 at home on Broad Creek to Ruth Smith, and Adolphus O'Neal, he wed Ethelene Pope in October of 1953 served in the US Army during the Korean War, and retired from Cherry Point as an Air Craft Engine Supervisor. He was instrumental in developing the Broad Creek Community Association, Fire Department, and Rescue Squad. He also served as an active devoted lifetime member of the Broad Creek United Methodist Church and most recently as a board member of the West Carteret Water Company. He was a good man, a fair man, who loved his family, his church, and his community unconditionally. He will be sorely missed.
William is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ethelene; daughters, Debra and Sherry; grandsons, Patrick Ortiz and wife Beverly, and Michael Ortiz and wife Asia; great grandchildren, Makayla, Maviell, Adelena, Zoe, Abriana and Finley Bell; nieces, Rhonda and Karen; nephews, Reid, Dwayn, and Kyle; and sister, Mary Ellen Dillard.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Brenda.
The family will welcome friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
