William Chester Griffin

William Chester Griffin Sr., 92, of Morehead City, passed away Wednesday April 27, 2016 at Carteret Health Care.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, April 30, 2016 at Munden Funeral Home in Morehead City with Pastor John Carswell officiating.  Interment will follow at Gethsemane Memorial Park.

Mr. Griffin was born in Nashville, GA on November 26, 1923 to the late Soloman and Mamie Clyde Parrish Griffin.  After high school, he served in the United States Navy during World War II.  After the war, Mr. Griffin resided in Maryland and retired in 1998.  He was a member of Parkview Baptist Church.

He loved to watch movies and sports, especially baseball, football and golf; and on occasion he enjoyed playing recreational golf.  In his younger years, he and his wife enjoyed dancing and spending time with their family.  He was a loving and caring husband and father who was very special to his family and will be greatly missed.  He had a great sense of humor and was a special friend to all who knew him.

He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Lillie (Lil) Marilla McLamb Griffin; son, William C. Griffin Jr. of Morehead City; sister, Bessie Griffin Highsmith of Brunswick, GA; nephews, Daniel Griffin, Terry Griffin, Eric Griffin and Joel Highsmith; and nieces, Janet Griffin, Aurena De Foor, Deborah Griffin, Cheryl Melton and Martha Bell.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Soloman Griffin Jr., Robert J. Griffin and wife Emily, Noel Griffin and wife Marie, Dumps Griffin and wife Mariam, Foster Griffin and wife Ruth, Felix Griffin and Tharon Griffin; sisters, Ada Belle Hamilton and husband Jessie and Flora Griner and husband Buren; nephews, Robert K. Griffin, Scott Griffin, Cortez Griner, Donald Griner, Steven Griffin and Charles Griner; and nieces Nina Justice and Nancy Barnes; and brother in law Marvin J. Highsmith.

Flowers are welcome, or memorials may be made to Parkview Baptist Church, 4738 Arendell Street, Morehead City, NC 28557.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 – 2:00 prior to the service at Munden Funeral Home, Morehead City.
