William Kurtz Glasgow

February 19, 1921 — October 9, 2011

William Kurtz Glasgow, 90, of Morehead City, died Sunday, October 9, 2011 at Carolina House.
A memorial service will be held 1:00 pm Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Tim Havlicek officiating.
Mr. Glasgow graduated from Cleveland Heights High School in Ohio, attended Ohio University and the Citadel in Charleston, SC.
He worked through the Great Depression selling vacuum cleaners and cleaning houses for his Dad.Bill joined the Air Force in 1942 prior to marrying the enduring love of his life Jean Robinson in 1945, where he then served in the Air Force during World War II as a B-17 pilot, and later a B-24 Bomber pilot instructor.
Bill and Jean moved with their families to Jacksonville, NC in 1955 to help open the Jacksonville Daily News. Bill became a Co Publisher of the Daily News. He served as the president of the Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce, President of the Rotary Club, helped chair the fund raising for Jacksonville Senoir High football stadium, President of Onslow Economic Development Council, Chairman of the Onslow County Hospital Board Drive, member of of the Hospital Board, and served on the School Board Advisory Council. After leaving the Jacksonville Daily News, Bill and Jean moved to Morehead City, to retire, where he helped found the Salvation Army, along with his support to bring large print boooks to the various local libraries. Bill also attended the ROMEOS in Morehead as a surviving World War II Veteran. He was very gracious to many.
Bill and Jean loved to travel and enjoyed the water. They traveled several times across the US to the great state of Alaska, and spent many hours enjoying the Outer Banks of North Carolina and especially Cape Lookout with his family and friends. Thanksgiving and Christmas were always very special time to spend with kids and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife Jean Robinson Glasgow; son, Thomas W. Glasgow and wife Jackie G. Glasgow; grandchildren, Laura E. Glasgow, Rebekah E. Glasgow, Thomas Baker Glasgow and Margaret Cameron Glasgow; greatgrandchild, Abigail M. Glasgow; and daughter-in-law, Yvonne Glasgow.
He was preceded in death by two sons, William D. Glasgow and Douglas B. Glasgow, and brother, James Glasgow.
