William J. "Bill" Donnelly, Jr., died Thursday, August 2, 2012 at Carolina East Medical Center.
Funeral service will be held 10:00 am Tuesday at St. Egbert's Catholic Church with Rev Tom Davis officiating. A graveside service will be held 12:00 pm at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.
Education, he attended Central High School, Washington D.C., US Merchant Marine Academy where he received his BS, George Washington University, received his Master of Laws and Juris Doctorate. Admitted to the Bar of the US Supreme Court, the US Court of Appeals, the US Military Court of Appeals, Washington DC Bar and the State of Maryland Bar, President of Washington DC Defense Lawyers Association. Primary practice as a trial attorney for 38 years in Washington DC as senior partner of the Law Firm of Martell, Donnelly, Grimaldi, and Gallagher. Member of Delta Pheta Phi, Law Faternity. Since retirement as a Lawyer in Washingon DC he resided in Atlantic Beach since 1989. Active in Civic Affairs as a Guardian Ad Litem for foster children in Carteret County. Past President of Lions Club for Carteret County. Master Gardner Association, two term commissioner of Atlantic Beach and past Mayor of Atlantic Beach, Board of Directors, Country Club of the Crystal Coast currently appointed member of NC Beach Commission. Volunteer at NC Aquarium Pine Knoll Shores. Member of Core Sound Decoy Guild. Lifetime member American Legion Post 46 VFW, Korean War Vet. Association and Task Force 90 Korean War. Combat Vet. of WWII and Korea, member of ROMEO.
He is survived by a daughter, Cathy Fatigati of Poolesville, MD; two sons, Jim Donnelly and wife Betty Jo of Morehead City, Mike Donnelly of Atlantic Beach; sister, Eileen Gasior of Salisbury, MD; seven grandchildren, William James "Jamie" Donnelly and wife Saara of Charlotte, James M. M. Fatigati of Rockville, MD, Thomas William Fatigati and wife Sue of Damascus, MD, Lauren Elizabeth Donnelly of Frederick, MD, Darragh Valinda Donnelly of Frederick, MD, Michael Brennen Donnelly of Frederick, MD, and Jenna Donnelly of Frederick, MD; daughter-in-law, Susan Elizabeth Donnelly of Frederick, MD.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marion Valinda Donnelly and son Mark L. Donnelly.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 - 8:00 pm Monday at Munden Funeral Home with a Christian Wake at 6:30 pm.
