William Lloyd Cannon, 75, of South River, went to meet his Heavenly Father Monday, July 15, 2013 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
A funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Wednesday at First Free Will Baptist Church Beaufort with Rev. Richard Patterson, Rev. Ray Hansley and Rev. Jesse Caton officiating. Interment with Last Call Honors provided by the South River - Merrimon Fire and Rescue Squad will follow at Carteret Memorial Gardens.
He was a christian and loved God with his whole heart. He was a loving husband to his wife Nancy of 52 1/2 years, and a wonderful Daddy to his children Gary and Debbie. He was born to William B. Cannon and Vera E. Cannon January 26, 1938. He graduated from Beaufort High School in 1956. After graduation he went to work at Cherry Point MCAS where he attended apprentice school for four of his 34 years with the government before retiring, on April 3, 1991. After retiring from the government he started his second career by founding Cannon Seafood with his son, Gary. He was taught by two of the best, his father and father in-law, and passed this knowledge to his son Gary and grandson Brandon, who he worked with until this summer when William became sick. William also helped organize and develop the South River Rescue Squad. He served as chief for 23 years. He lived his life for God and his family. He was much loved by his wife, children, grandchildren, and his great grandchild Lil Brayden, as called by his Papa.
He will be greatly missed by his wife and children, but he promised to be waiting for them in Heaven.
He is survived by his wife Nancy Pittman Cannon of the home; two children daughter Debbie Range and fiancee Cliff Newell of South River, and son Gary Cannon and wife Allison of Newport; three grandchildren William Brandon Range, Megan Johnson, and Brandon Smith; one great grandchild Brayden Hunter Range; brother Edward Cannon and wife Sandra of South River; sister Marie Wallace of South River; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents William B. Cannon and Vera Eubanks Cannon, and brother in-law Charlie Wallace.
Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 pm Tuesday at Munden Funeral Home.
