William Franklin Lovick, Bill Lovick AKA "Gizzi" 78, of Havelock, North Carolina passed away peacefully and reunited with our Lord and Savior on November 20, 2023, at Carolina East Medical Center in New Bern, NC.
Services will be held at Munden Funeral Home in Morehead City, NC at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 29, 2023. Services are followed by an afternoon graveside ash burial at Martin Memorial Gardens in Williamston, NC at 3:00 p.m.
Bill Lovick was born and raised in "Rabbit Hill", Morehead City, NC November 10, 1945. He accepted Christ in 1953. As a young boy he did carpentry with his dad and a short order cook at Sportsman Pier. He also worked at Coral Bay Club, Anchor Green Putt-Putt, IGA and at the first self-help grocery store in MHC. He graduated from Morehead City High School in 1964 and Lenoir County Community College in 1966 with an Associate Applied Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering and Design. LCCC became a Technical Institute in 1965 and he was the first student body president. He began his career in Virginia at Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock. While at NNS&DD Co. he represented the company at the Naval Reactors Office in Washington, DC as a Senior Designer on the contract guidance plans for the USS Chester H. Nimitz (CVAN 68) and Dwight D. Eisenhower, a new class of nuclear aircraft carriers. Other work included 1973 Catalytic, Inc. in Charlotte, NC aka, A&E House, 1978 Midrex Corp, 1979 Duke Power, 1981 CP&L Progress Energy, he served as a Senior Specialist Nuclear Designer serving all nuclear stations in the Carolinas. Charlotte, NC. 1983 CP&L Raleigh, NC and 1984 H.B. Robinson Nuclear site in Hartsville, SC. 1998 Raleigh, NC, Harris Nuclear plant. 2002 owner of The Lighthouse Quick Mart post early retirement. 2004 he returned to work on "The USS George H. Bush" aircraft carrier with Northrop Grumman NNS., VA. 2008 Offshore oil rig design firm, GustoMSC. Houston, TX. 2008 Gibbs and Cox. Hampton, VA where he was laid off and never considered himself retired. He loved his work. Bill was recognized, nominated and humbly won achievement awards throughout his career.
Bill Lovick loved his wife Linda tremendously and missed her dearly. He was a loving Daddy, Granddaddy and Great Granddaddy. He deeply loved his parents, siblings and extended family and friends. He remained in contact as best as possible in his past and recent years with co-workers and classmates, consistently working on genealogy and a collection of his own life and fond memories. He lived a life of love for God's word, music, UNC Carolina basketball, John Wayne and westerns, dogs, fishing, hunting, his sarcastic "dad jokes", and classic cars with his 1963 Impala SS as his favorite. Thanksgiving was his favorite holiday spent surrounded with loved ones with whom he so deeply cared for. His core was always strong and his mind sharp every day until his last. His handsome face, blue eyes, laugh and his kind, gentle and generous heart will be forever missed.
Survived by his children - John Christopher Lovick of Waxhaw, NC. Rhonda Renee Lovick Montague and husband Joe Carr Montague of Fuquay Varina, NC. William Jerrod Lovick and wife Leslie Castillo of Havelock, NC. Former daughters-in-law -Teresa Lovick, Lillian Chase Sheehan, Betzabeth Tillung and Leilani Hargreaves.
Sisters - Janice Coleman of Swansboro, NC. Faye and Charles Barwick of Angier, NC. Donna Lovick of Angier, NC. Sisters-in-law - Leslie Lovick of Leander, TX and Amelia Lovick of Oxford, NC. Grandchildren - Nickolas Austin Allen Lovick, Derrick Sterling Montague and wife Morgan Montague, Sierra Jourdaine Montague and Brianna Marie Montague. Great-grandchildren - Zerenity Nevaeh West, Paisley Brooke Montague, Crimson Barrett Montague, William Reinaldo Lovick, Aaron Zethaniel Lovick, Evianah Aylie Hargreaves, James Avichi Hargreaves. Step-great-grandchildren - Danielle, Joey, Jennie, Kellie, Naomi, Justin, Kevin and Caleb.
Preceded in death by his loving wife of 40 years, Linda Marie Roberson Lovick. Parents - William Grayson and Flossie Beatrice Long Lovick. Brothers - Richard "Dickie" Lovick and Gerald "Jerry" Lovick. Grandchildren - Preston Carr Montague and Frankie Isaac Lovick. Brother-in-law - Willie Herbert Coleman. Sisters-in-law - Charlotte Willis Lovick and Nancy Duke Lovick.
Flowers are welcome and memorial donations may be sent to Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia International the non-profit charity close to Bill's heart, co-founded by Rhonda Montague for Preston Carr Montague.
