William "Butch" Anderson

William “Butch” Anderson, 73, of Newport, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, November 7, 2024.

Born on May 5, 1951, in Brooklyn, New York, Bill was the son of the late Arthur and Mildred Anderson. As a high school math and science teacher, he touched the lives of countless students, instilling in them a love of learning. Bill shared his love of sports during his many years as a coach for softball and soccer, where he inspired teamwork and resilience.

Bill was known for his warm heart and welcoming nature; he had a remarkable ability to turn acquaintances into friends effortlessly. His enthusiasm for life and his genuine care for others were evident in every interaction.

Following his move to North Carolina, Bill continued his commitment to serving his community by volunteering at the Newport Police Department, always eager to lend a helping hand wherever he was needed.

Above all, Bill cherished his family deeply and devoted as much time as possible to his loved ones. He will be remembered fondly as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend, leaving a profound impact on all who were fortunate enough to know him. Bill will be greatly missed, but his spirit will live on through the many lives he touched.

Those remaining to cherish his memory are his loving and devoted wife, Linda Ann Anderson; daughter, Stacie Anderson Gillen of Williamsburg, VA, and Linda Anderson of Newport, NC; son, Richard Anderson and wife Amy of Long Island, NY; sister, Gail Stoia and husband Cosmo of Long Island, NY; brother, Arthur Anderson and wife Kathy of Pittsburg, PA; grandchildren, Thomas, Scott (Taylor), Brieanna, Timothy, Hunter, Sienna, Austin, Ava, and Jack; and many loving nieces and nephews.

As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
