Wanda Combs Taylor was born in Havana, Illinois on July 8, 1932, to William and Eunice (Miller) Combs. She worked at a dry cleaners until she met Nathan, a young surveyor who just happened to be working in town. Their romance was a short three weeks, and they knew they had something special, and she decided to marry Nathan and start her 58-year journey with him that led them to settle down in Broad Creek until his death in 2019.

Wanda worked at Cherry point as a sheet metal mechanic for 20 years when she medically retired from her job. Wanda loved to bowl and was in a bowling league in Morehead city with some of her best friends. Wanda also loved to crochet, and she made some very beautiful blankets, table scarves, doilies and doll clothes. She loved her grandchildren and helped raise a few. Wanda had a gift for gab, and she could sit and talk to her friends for hours and she could tell some amazing stories of her past when she was a little girl growing up in hard times. She lived a very full life while she was on this earth and she will be missed.

Those remaining to cherish her memory are sister Eva Broshear, Petersburg Illinois, , son Timothy Taylor (Loretta) Newport , granddaughters Amanda Hansley, Jacksonville, Lauren Moody (Jonathan) Newport, grandson Brandon Hansley , David Blevins (son in law) Newport , as well as grandchildren Micheal Jr, George, Howard and Tonya Holmes of Rhode Island. She is proceeded in death by her parents, as well as, her husband, Nathan Taylor, son Michael, Holmes, daughter Brenda, Blevins, brothers, Robert, William, Ray Combs. Sisters Wilma Jean, Lula Bell Hardy.
