Wallace Bradsher "Wally" Shook, 90, of Newport, departed this life on February 11, 2014.
A celebration of his life will be Saturday, February 15, 2014 2:00 pm at Newport Baptist Church, Newport, NC with Rev. Jack Bowen officiating.
Wallace was born on April 8, 1923 in Roxboro, NC to Samuel W. Shook and Delsie Cheek Shook. His family moved to Raleigh, NC where he lived until he graduated from Hugh Morson High School in 1941. He enrolled in NC State Training Program in Chapel Hill, NC. He later transferred to the Naval Air Station in Miami, FL and to Pensacola, FL for further training. He was commissioned in December, 1943 in the Marine Corps as Second Lieutenant and received his pilots license. He served in World War II as a Marine Corps pilot in the South Pacific flying missions from aircraft carriers.
Wallace married his wife, Nora Petty Shook, in November, 1946 and remained in the Marine Corps for 10 years. He retired from Civil Service at Cherry Point in 1995 with a total of 53 years of service, military and civilian.
In addition to his parents he was predeceased by two brothers Samuel W. Shook, Jr. and Mack Donald Shook.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 67 years, Nora Petty Shook; his daughter and son-in-law Harold J. and Beth Lanning of Morehead City; two brothers Milton Gary Shook of Garner, and Jimmy Shook of Garner; and one sister Carol Shook of Delaware.
Visitation will follow the service in the sanctuary.
