Virgil Gaskill Sr.

Virgil Gaskill Sr., 84, of Newport, North Carolina, passed away on Saturday, January 20, 2024, at Carolina East Medical Center.

A memorial service to honor Virgil’s life will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, January 25^th at Munden Funeral Home, officiated by Pastor Tim Marriner.

Virgil was born on September 4, 1939, to the late William and Lillian Gaskill. Virgil's faith was grounded in the Lord, and he was a faithful member of Glad Tidings Church.

Virgil had a deep love for the ocean and a tireless work ethic. As a commercial fisherman, he understood the importance of hard work and perseverance and spent countless hours out on the water.

Those remaining to cherish his memory are his children, Carla Jo Garner of the Mountains of North Carolina and Virgil Gaskill Jr. and his companion Kathleen Moffitt of Newport; sister, Carol Ann Edwards; and grandchildren, Shawn Ronning and Kayla Garner. 

In addition to his parents, Virgil was preceded in death by his beloved wife of over 60 years, Georgia Styron Gaskill.
