Vicky Jean Simmons Griffiths

It is with great sadness that the family of Vicky Jean Simmons Griffiths announces her passing on March 31, 2018. She died peacefully at her home, surrounded by her cherished family.

Her memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 6, 2018 at Munden Funeral Home in Morehead City, officiated by Brother Danny Smith.

Vicky was born June 25, 1953 at Fort Campbell, KY to Leland Davis and Betty Ruth (Smith) Simmons. Vicky was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, great-aunt and friend. Family meant everything to Vicky, and she was happiest when the entire family came together, particularly during the Fourth of July holiday. She loved spoiling her grandchildren and cooking for family and friends. She was an avid gardener and an incomparable party planner. She loved boating and being on the water and was an excellent seafood cook.

Vicky is survived by her husband, Charles Griffiths of the home; two sons, Kevin Pelfrey of Newport, Darin Pelfrey and wife, Wynnona, of Crossville, TN; three grandchildren, Hunter Pelfrey and Jordan Pelfrey, both of Crossville, TN and Ellen Ruth Wheeler of Newport; brother, Lee Simmons of Newport; nieces Kelly Cope and husband, Brett, of Greensboro, NC and Allee Saffioti and husband, Rob, of Greensboro, NC. Additionally, she is survived by great-nephews, Grey Saffioti and Easton Cope, both of Greensboro, NC, as well as numerous brothers and sister-in-law and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Leland and Betty (Smith) Simmons, sister, Marsha Lynn Simmons and beloved Labrador retrievers, Max and Gracie Jean.

Family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 6, 2018 at Munden Funeral Home in Morehead City.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to The American Cancer Society at P.O. Box 22478, Oklahoma City, OK 73123 or the Carteret County Humane Society at 853 Hibbs Rd, Newport, NC 28570.
