Vernon “Joe” DeWitt Bailey Bryan, 84, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 25, 2021, at his loving home in Carolina Pines, surrounded by his family.
Family, friends, and others whose lives Joe touched are invited to his funeral service at 3 p.m., Friday, July 2, 2021, Munden Funeral Home, 2112 Arendell St., Morehead City, officiated by Rev. Worth Earlwood Norman Jr. The family will receive friends an hour prior. Join them as they reminisce, grieve and support each other. Interment will follow at Gethsemane Memorial Park. Joe was born on May 13, 1937, in Havelock, North Carolina to the late Frederick Pelletier Bryan and Betty Mundine Bryan. Joe married Amelia Padrick on October 12, 1960, at the Hollywood First Baptist Church in Havelock. Joe served in the United States National Guard and the United States Air Force in his early years. To further serve his community, Joe worked as a Police Officer in Lynchburg, Virginia. He had a successful career at Cherry Point.
Joe was a family man, who always provided a loving home for his family, nestled among the trees as he loved nature and a spacious home site. Joe lived life to the fullest with his family and friends. He loved feeding the birds, Christmas trips to Myrtle Beach, family cookouts, summer family vacations, Marine Corps Ball, Cherry Point Dining In Celebrations, working in the yard and planning his next project in his workshop.
He is survived by his wife, Amelia; daughter, Gina Smith and husband Patrick; son, Vernon “Little Joe” Bryan and his wife Genia; granddaughter, Gillian Bryan; grandson, Joshua Bryan; sisters, Irene Thompson, Alice Martin; sister-in-law, Marie “Tiny” Bryan; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Joe is predeceased by immediate family members to include father, Frederick Bryan; mother, Betty Bryan; siblings, Frederick Bryan and wife Letha, Earnest “Tiny” Bryan, Lillie Mae Haskett and husband Junius, Dorothy O’Brien and husband Bud, George Bryan and wife Lois, Alton Bryan and wife Ann, Royal Baker Bryan and wife Marie, Raymond “Nonnie” Bryan and wife Jean, Agnes Stuck and husband L.D.; and brothers-in-law, Tex Martin and Junior Thompson.
