Velma Seitter, 94, of Beaufort, passed away Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at Crystal Coast Hospice House.
Her funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm Saturday April 1, 2017 at Sea Level Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Eric Bass officiating. Interment will follow at Nelson Bay Cemetery.
Velma grew up in Sea Level, NC and left home at 17 to pursue a nursing degree at James Walker Nursing School in Wilmington. She was an RN at Morehead Hospital and performed private duty. She succeeded at her motto “No one will die on my watch!”. Velma was known to those who knew her best as “Angel” dubbed by her faithful husband of more than 62 years. After many years in nursing she was instrumental in starting the Family Planning Program in Carteret County and was actively involved for numerous years. In addition to her life’s work and passion for nursing, she shared an equal love for gardening, flowers, and expanded her creativity into making arrangements for the “The Atlantis Seafood Restaurant” in Rocky Mount, owned by her husband and son.
She is survived by her daughter, Jemma Seitter Jack and husband Jesse; son, John Seitter, Jr. and wife Patricia; sister, Catherine Nelson and husband Jerry; and three grandchildren, Ashley Taylor Rayfield, Jordan Elizabeth Seitter, and John Zachary Seitter.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, John Edward Seitter, Sr.; parents, James Wallace Taylor and Mary Edith Chadwick Taylor; brothers, Guy Taylor, Monroe Taylor, James Taylor, and Graham Taylor; and sisters, Varina Laing and Ruth Taylor.
The family will receive friends 2:00 – 3:00 pm prior to the service at the church.
