Vance  M. Lockamy, Jr.

Vance Lockamy, beloved father and husband, was called home to be with his Lord, Friday, August 12th, 2011. Vance and his deceased wife, Barbara, lived together in Newport, N.C. since 1994.

Services will be held 2:00 pm Monday at Munden Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Gethsemane Memorial Park.

Vance Lockamy was born in Plymouth, NC and reared near the Wilson and Rocky Mount areas. His brothers and sisters are Eleanor Bell of Wilson, NC Betsy and Velma Parker of Whitakers, NC and Robert Lockamy of Chesapeake, VA.

Vance not only lived for his family, but sacrificed for his country as a retired officer of the United States Air Force. Lt. Col. Vance Lockamy served 26 years as an Air Force pilot with tours in Korea, Africa, Viet Nam, and several tours stateside.

Vance Lockamy will be remembered for his selfless devotion to family and his integrity. His life remains an example of generosity, kindness, responsibility, and wisdom to those who had the privilege  of knowing him. He lives on as his children continue to try to live by his example. His friends, neighbors, and family will greatly miss  his  wit and humor.

Vance was survived by his four daughters and their families:  Pat and David Blackwell of Dothan, AL, Nancy and Rodney Guthrie of Morehead City, NC, Lora and Greg Wilder of Mebane, NC, and Dana and Alan Bennett of Hickory, NC. Vance was  a generous and doting grandfather to nine grandchildren: Jennifer Blackwell, Adam and Kylee Blackwell, Stephanie and Benjamin Guthrie, Katelyn and Camden Wilder, and Daniel and Jonathan Bennett. He was recently blessed with a great-grandchild, Tucker Vance Blackwell.

Vance was preceded in death by his parents, Vance and Katherine Lockamy, and by his wife of  57 years, Barbara Blakeman Lockamy.

The family will receive friends 7:00 to 8:00 pm Sunday at the funeral home.
