Urith Mae (Gillikin) Davis

November 20, 1930 — October 8, 2010

Urith Mae Gillikin Davis, 79, of Harkers Island, died Friday, October 8, 2010, at her home.

Services will be held 2:00 pm Monday at Munden Funeral Home with Rev. Brad Williams of Harkers Island United Methodist Church and Rev. Manley Rose, Jr., of Harkers Island Refuge Fellowship Church officiating. Interment will follow at Vergie Mae Cemetery on Harkers Island.

Born November 20, 1930, to the late Roosevelt Gillikin and Ruth Francis Gillikin, she was raised in Otway, NC and graduated from Smyrna High School. She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. One hundred percent of her life was dedicated to her family and being a homemaker. Mrs. Davis was a member of Harkers Island United Methodist Church, Harkers Island, NC. In her earlier years, she was very active in the church before declining health.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Etheridge (Eshie) G. Davis; one daughter, Callie Guthrie and husband Dennis of Harkers Island; two sons, E.Travis Davis and wife Susan, and Kenneth “Ken” G. Davis and wife Melinda, all of Newport, four grandchildren, Shirley Dee Lewis of Otway, Etheridge Thompson (Tommy) Davis of Wilmington, Rhonda G. Evans of Williston, and Barney Davis of Otway; and four great-grandchildren, Kendra Evans, Eden Evans, Haley Davis, and Danielle Davis; a brother, Walker Gillikin of Harkers Island; and three sisters, Alma Guthrie of Harkers Island, Twyla Matthews of Morehead City, and Sue Brown of Otway.

The family is grateful for the special care provided by Nurse Dee Lewis with Liberty Hospice.

The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 pm Sunday at Munden Funeral Home.
