Troy Mason “Dick” Simmons, 80 of Crumpler, North Carolina, formerly of Newport, died on Wednesday, September 18th, 2013 peacefully at his home in Crumpler surrounded by Family.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00am on Tuesday, September 24th at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Piney Creek, North Carolina with the Reverend R. David Felts officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 26th from 6-8pm at the Munden Funeral Home in Morehead City. It will be followed by a Funeral Service at Newport Baptist Church on Friday, September 27that 11:00am with the Reverend Dr. Gary Carroll officiating. Internment will follow at the Amariah Garner Cemetery in Newport.
He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Jo Ann Moore Simmons, son William Troy Simmons and daughter Dawn Michelle Simmons along with three grandchildren and two great-grand children.
Dick was born to Harold and Julia Simmons, who proceeded him in death.. He was the 4th of 13 children born to his parents in Newport, North Carolina. After serving in the US Air Force, he returned home and began work as a clerk and then Manager of New Bern Auto Supply. He would later become General Manager of Havelock Auto Supply and would hold that position until it was destroyed by a fire. He re-built the business and was its owner until retirement.
Upon his retirement, he moved to the mountains of North Carolina to the little town of Crumpler. He remained there peacefully until his passing. Dick was a member of Mt. Zion Methodist Church and formerly a member of Newport Baptist Church.
