Newport

“Tommy” George Raymond Creech, Jr., 72, passed away Thursday, February 21, 2019, at the Crystal Coast Hospice House.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, February 24, 2019, at First Baptist Church in Morehead City, officiated by Dr. Nate Leonard.

Tommy was born on October 2, 1946, to George Raymond and Beatrice Lee Creech in Wilson County, NC. Tommy was an avid boater; he made the boating business a career for over 40 years. Since 1985, he owned and operated The Boat Shop in Morehead City until health issues forced him to retire. He had a full life with close ties to all his family, especially grandchildren, friends, church, doing never ending house projects and traveling all over the world.

Tommy was easy going and ready for whatever, enjoying shagging to the sounds of beach music. He loved First Baptist Church and had especially close friends in the Faith and Fellowship Class at church along with the Baptist Men at breakfast on Tuesday mornings. He was a sharp dresser and kept his vehicles spotless. He had many ongoing health issues over the past 10 years; however, everyone was amazed at his positive outlook on life. He always had a smile, handshake or hug for everyone.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Nelda Braxton Creech; daughters, Kristy Creech Wells and husband Todd of Rocky Mount, Stacy Creech Gandini and husband Michael of Wake Forest; son, Trey Braxton Creech, MD and wife Tori of Danville, PA; grandchildren, Sarah, Emma and Alec Gandini, and Gavin Wells; sisters, Patsy Etheridge and husband Allen of Wilson, Debbie Coffey and husband Dick of Wilson, Susie Smitherman of Wilson and Dee Scott of Apex; brothers, Garland Smitherman and wife Marianne of Wilson and Wayne Smitherman and wife Sharon of Bradenton, FL; mother-in-law, Nell Braxton of Morehead City; brother-in-law, Gordon Joyner of Wilson; and many loving nieces and nephews.

Tommy was predeceased by his parents; step-father, Robert Smitherman; son, George Anthony Creech; sisters, Rachel Creech Joyner, Jeanette Creech; brother, Jerry Creech; and father-in-law, Earl Braxton.

Family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, February 24, 2019, at First Baptist Church in Morehead City.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Tuesday Morning Baptist Men’s Breakfast that Tommy enjoyed so much. This fund will assist other members who are traveling out of town for medical services. Donations can be sent to First Baptist Church “Tuesday Morning Baptist Men’s Breakfast” at 810 Bridges St., Morehead City, NC 28557.
