Thomas Cheek Johnson

Thomas Cheek Johnson, 70, of Pine Knoll Shores, passed away from cancer on Thursday, November 15­, 2018, at Carteret Health Care where he received extraordinary care.

His memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, November 25, 2018, at Munden Funeral Home.

Tom was born to the late James Lewis Johnson and Douglas Huckabee Johnson in Durham, North Carolina on October 19, 1948.  The family lived in Richmond, Virginia and later in Wilson, North Carolina.

After attending military school in Virginia, he enrolled in Elon College. He worked a short time as an industrial paint salesman and later decided to enter the golf business.  He went from assistant golf professional, to greens superintendent, to golf professional, to golf director. He worked hard in his golf career but enjoyed every moment because he loved the game and the time he spent in the PGA.

Tom enjoyed people and never met a stranger. He loved life and experiencing new adventures which  included living in several different places in North Carolina. He loved Duke basketball and the rivalry and thrill that college sports entail. Tom was a generous man, full of love and laughter and lit up any room he was in. He considered Kent and Kate his greatest achievement.

He is survived by his daughter, Kathryn Davis Johnson and husband, Paul Kinsella, of Maysville; son, Kent Douglas Johnson of Raleigh; sisters, Debbie Holterhaus and Judy Reagan, both of Wilson; and brother, Lewis Johnson of Wilson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Lewis Johnson and Douglas Huckabee Johnson and sister, Carolyn Johnson.

Family will receive friends following the service on Sunday, November 25, 2018 at Munden Funeral Home.
