Therese Lane Whealton Rhodes, 87, of Morehead City, died Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2018, at Carteret Healthcare in Morehead City after a brief illness.
A graveside memorial service will be held at a later date.
Therese was born on Dec. 17, 1930, to the late Joshua and Nina Whealton. She was the youngest of eight children. She was preceded in death by her sisters Lillie Belle Whealton Seamon, Ruth Virginia Whealton Smith and brothers Harold Whealton, Daniel Whealton, Alvah Whealton, Kenneth Whealton, and Thurlow Whealton, and her daughter, Ruth Claire Rhodes.
She is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Wallace Seath Rhodes and by her sons Kevin Wallace Rhodes and wife Pam of Newport News, VA and Brian Thurlow Rhodes and wife Susan of Newport: and five grandchildren, Seth Brian Rhodes and wife Lindsay of West Virginia, Keith Wallace Rhodes and Nathan Gene Rhodes of Newport, Tyler Christopher Rhodes of Richmond, VA and Sara Catherine Rhodes of Newport News, VA: and two great-granddaughters, Ashlyn Taylor Rhodes and Olivia Lane Rhodes of West Virginia; and one great-grandson, Joshua John Rhodes of West Virginia.
Therese was lifetime resident of Morehead City and loved remembering growing up in the simpler times with her best friend Jerry Guthrie Campbell, whom she lost in 2015. She loved all her nieces Mary Ethel Seamon McCabe, Joan Seamon Putnam, June Seamon Alyetti, Nina Smith Dewberry, Mildred Lockhart Farrior, Geraldine Whealton Gaskill and her nephews Harold Whealton, Ronnie Smith, Alvah Whealton, Jr., William (Billy) Whealton, Kenneth (Kenny) Whealton, Jr. (deceased), Kevin Whealton, and John Whealton.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Morehead City and served faithfully as a teacher, pianist, and organist for 1st grade age church members for over 45+ years.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made, in her memory, to the First Baptist Church of Morehead City, 810 Bridges St., Morehead City, NC 28557.
