Thelma Lucille Evans, 92, was called home to our Lord on February 5, 2022.
Thelma was born on January 3, 1930, in Vincennes, Indiana to Jesse and Ruth Spurgeon, who preceded her in death. She attended Lincoln High School (Class of 1948) in Vincennes.
Her husband of 56 years, Dale Ellsworth Evans, also preceded her death; as well as two infant daughters, Vickie and Deborah. Her sisters, Norma and Mary Stein and brothers, Danny and John also preceded her in death.
Thelma was the centerpiece of a Marine Corps family who held the family together. She was independent and funny, in addition to being very proud of her family. She was fondly referred to as Mom, Grandma, and Mammaw.
She is survived by her sons, Steven Dale Evans and wife Sue of Punta Gorda, Florida and David Lee Evans Sr. and wife Cindy of Jacksonville, NC. She was blessed with four grandchildren, Jennifer Evans Welsh and husband Tom, Elizabeth Ann Evans and husband Dave, David Lee Evans Jr., and Melissa Evans Huffman and husband Bryan; eight great grandchildren who called her Mammaw or Grandma, Steven, Michael, Jack, Mason, Gabriel, Aidan, Emma, and McCoy.
Aside from her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, she is survived by her brother, Gordon Spurgeon of Vincennes, Indiana.
As an expression of sympathy, flowers are welcome.
Her funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, February 10, 2022, at Munden Funeral Home in Havelock. The family will receive friends from 12 p.m. until 1 p.m. at the Funeral Home. A private burial will follow the service.
