Texie Irene Powers

Texie Irene Powers, 86, of Newport, North Carolina, passed away on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at Carteret Health Care.

Texie was born on August 16, 1937, in Sissonville, West Virginia, to the late Enos and Stella Higginbotham. After completing high school, Texie embarked on a journey of service by joining the United States Marine Corps, where she diligently served in the clerical department with the title of Punch Operator. Her time in the Marine Corps held a special place in her heart, reflecting her commitment to duty and country. Texie's dedication extended beyond her military service, as she actively contributed to the community through her involvement with the Newport VFW. Texie’s work ethic was commendable, and she was a steadfast presence at the Henry’s where she worked in the shipping and receiving department.

Those remaining to cherish her memory are her daughters, Sharon Everett (Jackie) of New Bern, NC and Florence Evans (Steve) of Galena, OH; sons, Robert H. Powers Jr. of Newport, NC and Joseph Shuttleworth of Natrona, PA; grandchildren, Jessica Bullock of Cary, NC, Jayla Everett or Raleigh, NC, Zachary Shuttleworth of Tarentum, PA, and Joshua DeBerry of Monroe, PA; and great-grandchildren, Kate and Lila Bullock of Cary, NC.

In addition to her parents, Texie was preceded in death by her first husband, Samuel George Shuttleworth; her second husband, Robert H. Powers; and her siblings.
