Terry Carlyle Smith

Terry Carlyle Smith, 73, of Newport, North Carolina, passed away on Thursday, January 23, 2025, at Carolina East Medical Center.

Terry was born on September 7, 1951, in Harnett, NC, to the late James Carlyles Smith and Susan Elizabeth Culbreth. From a young age, he showcased his entrepreneurial skills by shining shoes to earn extra money. His wonderful personality was a perfect fit for his role as manager at the various grocery stores he worked at over the years. Terry thoroughly enjoyed his work, his co-workers and the friendly interactions with customers.

Outside of his professional life, Terry was passionate about fishing. Whether at the Bogue Inlet fishing pier or along the coast, he found joy in casting a line. Additionally, he was an avid fan of drag racing, reveling in the thrill of fast races and the electric atmosphere of the events.

Those remaining to cherish his memory are his loving and devoted wife of 20 years, Teresa Smith; daughter, Robin Jones (Lee) of Burlington, NC; son, Robert Smith (Tina) of Winston Salem, NC; sisters, Pansy King (Billy) of Burlington, NC and Sherry Clapp of Durham, NC; and brother, Randy Smith (Elaine) of Myrtle Beach, NC.

In addition to his parents, Terry was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Steve Clapp.
