Teresa Johnson Vaughn, 68, of Morehead City, NC passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, February 12, 2022, after her long battle with non-alcoholic liver disease. She spent 2 months at UNC Chapel Hill and was sent home to await her liver and kidney transplant, but the Lord called her home sooner than expected.
Teresa was born on December 4th, 1953, in Smithfield, North Carolina, to Walter Sellie Johnson, Jr. and Helen McLeod Johnson. Teresa went on to spend most of her adult life in Clayton, NC with her husband where they raised their children before relocating to Morehead City, NC in 2017. She was a retired state employee and finished her career as a Claims Examiner in the Victims Compensation Unit in Raleigh, NC. Teresa loved her family fiercely and enjoyed spending time with them any chance she got. She also loved to shop, cook and read in her free time.
She is survived by her husband, William Kenneth Vaughn Jr.; her son, William Kenneth Vaughn III and his wife Crystal Marie Vaughn, and their two children, Marcus Evan Vaughn and Zoey Lynn Vaughn; her daughter, Sara Vaughn Shearin and her husband James Coye Shearin, and their daughter, Everly Kate Shearin; and by her stepdaughter, Wanda Kaye Hinnant and her husband Clarence “Clint” Rex Hinnant Jr., and their three children, Russell Wade Hinnant and his wife Brittaney Kilmer Hinannt, Julia Christine Hinnant, and Jesse Rex Hinnant.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her two brothers, Braxton Keith Johnson and Walter Sherrill Johnson and grandson, Wesley Chase Hinnant.
Teresa’s memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, February 20th at Munden Funeral Home in Morehead City, NC. The family will receive loved ones an hour prior to the memorial service. For those unable to attend, the service can be viewed through her obituary page on Munden Funeral Home’s website. The service will remain on the Funeral Home website for 90 days. As an expression of sympathy, flowers are welcome or memorial contributions may be made to the Breast Cancer Foundation through the American Cancer Society.
