Sylvia Elliott

June 21, 1944 — February 14, 2012

Mrs. Sylvia Elliott died peacefully Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at her home in Havelock, NC, surrounded by family and friends.

She was born at Boston Naval Hospital in Chelsea, Massachusetts on June 21, 1945, the daughter of Eileen and Robert Lien.  The eldest of four children in a Navy family, she grew up in exotic locales, including Japan, Guam, and French Morocco. She graduated from Tewksbury Memorial High School in Massachusetts in 1962 as a member of the National Honor Society. She married John Timothy (Jack) Elliott in 1964 and they celebrated 48 years of marriage on January 31, 2012. Sylvia inspired their two sons, John Timothy and Michael Robert, to follow their dreams.
Sylvia’s positive personality attracted friends wherever her family lived, including Carlsbad, California, Hill City, South Dakota, Berwick, Maine, and Havelock, North Carolina. In the 1970’s she was a Jafra cosmetics consultant and co-owner of a family feed supply business. She worked as a teacher’s aide in South Dakota and also in Somersworth, New Hampshire. She transitioned to the real estate title business, working as a manager for over 20 years in New Hampshire, Maine and North Carolina.
Sylvia humbly excelled at numerous interests throughout her life, including writing poetry, growing and arranging dried flowers, horse ownership and riding, photography, boating, painting and gardening.  She was happiest close to the ocean, nature and animals, especially her cats, Cami and Cliffy.  She was an active Grammie to her grandson, Lars Timothy, who delighted in her hugs and “raspberries.”

She is survived by her husband Jack, son John Timothy, Jr., daughter-in-law Mary Elizabeth (Buffy) Elliott, grandson Lars, of Silver Spring, Maryland and son Michael Robert of Los Angeles, California. She is also survived by one sister and brother-in-law; Gina and William Zananiri of South Berwick, Maine; two brothers and sisters-in-law; Stephen and Adele Lien of Tewksbury, Mass., and Andrew Lien and Brenda Hughes Deacon of Pepperell, Mass.; many nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and nephews.

Family, friends and others whose lives Sylvia touched are invited to the Munden Funeral Home, 2112 Arendell Street, Morehead City, NC on Saturday, February 18 from 10:00 -12:00 noon to celebrate her life.
