Sue Dingess

July 31, 1959 — March 5, 2025

Morehead City

Sue Dingess, 65, of Morehead City, NC, formerly of Salter Path, NC, passed away on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, at Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

A funeral service to honor Sue’s life will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, March 10th at Salter Path Methodist Church, officiated by Rev. Paul Loftin. Interment will follow at Broad Creek Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends from one hour prior to the service.

Born on July 31, 1959, in Morehead City, NC, Sue was the daughter of the late Johnnie and Josephine Willis. She was known and greatly appreciated, for her caring nature and endless generosity towards those in need.

Sue had a true gift for creating delicious meals which was matched only by her talent for baking sweet treats that brought joy to family and friends alike. Living the majority of her life in Salter Path, Sue enjoyed going out in the boat with friends, fishing, clamming and opening scallops, always appreciating the beauty of coastal life. And you can guarantee that no matter what Sue was doing she’d have her favorite tunes playing.

Above all, her family was her greatest treasure. She loved her son dearly and her granddaughter was her pride and joy. Even when her granddaughter would make her go to the pet stores all the time, she was always the apple of her eye.

Those remaining to cherish her memory are her son, Plymouth Dingess (Melissa Phillips) of Cape Carteret; sisters, Patsy Smith and Christine Yates, both of Havelock, and Donna Lowery of Newport; brother, Johnnie Willis Jr. (Debbie) of Hubert; granddaughter, Cayden Dingess of Cape Carteret; dear friend and former husband, William “Will” Dingess of Swansboro; best friend, Jeanine Norman of Morehead City; along with a special aunt and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Sue was preceded in death by her brother, Dennis Willis and companion and special friend, William “Bill” VanHorn.
