Susan Durham Overman

Susan Durham Overman, 60, of Morehead City, passed away Thursday, August 17, 2017 in Morehead City.

Susan was born in Memphis, TN on April 3, 1957 and graduated from Overton High School in 1974.  A resident of Morehead City since 1979, Susan had a large but close-knit group of lifelong friends.  She loved life at the beach and spent as much time as possible on the water, where she was always happy to welcome friends aboard her boat.  Her favorite mate was her devoted and beloved dog, Tanner. Susan was famous among her friends and family as a skilled cook and gracious host.  She loved to surprise her family and friends with small but thoughtful gifts she called “happies” and had a unique way of making everyone feel special and loved.

Susan was a devoted employee of Henry’s Tackle (later Big Rock Sports) for over 30 years.  Through hard work and determination, she moved up the ranks from warehouse worker to Credit Manager, and became well-respected within the male-dominated hunting and fishing industry.   As a full-time working mother, Susan earned an Associate in Applied Science Degree in Business Administration from Carteret Community College in 1995.

She is survived her daughter and son-in-law, Amber and Ian Cartwright and her son and daughter-in-law, Josh and Amanda Lyle; grandchildren, Ian Morrison, Noah Cartwright, Emma Lyle, Jackson Lyle, Zoe Cartwright, and George Lyle; brother and sister-in-law, Skip and Toni Durham; sister and brother-in-law, Lynn and Rob Gladney; brother and sister in law, David and Debbie Durham; step-mother, Betty Durham; friend and former husband, Tim Overman; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Susan was proceeded in death by her parents, Patricia Hogan McCoy and Fred “Bud” Durham.

Her memorial service will be held Saturday, August 26, 2017 at 3:30 p.m. at Munden Funeral Home. Family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, August 26, 2017 at Munden Funeral Home.
