Suellen "Su" Crisp Leonard

March 31, 1979 — March 10, 2024

Morehead City

Suellen “Su” Crisp Leonard, 44, of Morehead City, NC passed away Sunday, March 10, 2024, due to injuries sustained from a car accident on March 3.

Suellen was born on March 31, 1979, in Tarboro.  Su graduated from North Carolina State University and served as a high school biology, earth science, and chemistry teacher. Most recently, she taught sixth-grade science and math at Nature School at Camp Albemarle.  She loved her students so much!  Her passion was pouring into the next generation, and she always found creative ways to do that.

Suellen was an artist at heart, although she would never accept such a title.  Even so, all who knew her were enamored by her art time and time again.  Suellen consistently created beautiful works reflecting her love for the Lord, nature, and the people in her life, from calligraphy to watercolors to sewing.  Suellen loved to laugh! Nothing brought her greater joy than laughing with her three kids, Pierce, Creed, and Selwyn.  Each received Su’s creative ingenuity in some fashion, and over the years, they would work together on various projects.  Suellen was always available for “extra” time each night to discuss the day and what might be weighing on anyone’s heart.  She was the best homework assistant, project coordinator, instrument instructor, life coach, and Bible teacher.

Suellen never had a harsh word for anyone.  She loved graciously and valued friendships.  Su was different than every other person on the earth.  Her uniqueness sometimes made her feel alone, but she never was.  Other people always found comfort in Suellen’s presence.  She made folks of all varieties feel welcome and valuable, which is how she genuinely felt about others.

Suellen’s relationship with the Lord was the defining marker of her life.  Her faith was authentic, tested, constantly growing, and never far from the surface.  She loved her family, church family, and friends far more than you likely realize.  This separation from Suellen will only be endured with the help of the Lord.  We know Suellen is well, face-to-face with Jesus, and we will see her again soon.  Until then, may we love, laugh, worship, and encourage others with the joy of the Lord as our strength!

She is survived by her husband of twenty-two years, Nate; her children, Pierce, Creed, and Selwyn; parents, Bucky and Lynn Crisp of Oak City, NC; sister, Jenny Kenneley (John) of Virginia Beach, VA; brother, Bryant Crisp (Penni Beth) of Indian Point; sister-in-law, Natalie Hill (Drew) of Greensboro, NC; nieces and nephews, Shane and Myles Kenneley, Garrett and Carolyn Crisp, and Honey, Hutch, Macy Heart, Hobson, and Huddle Hill; and many other aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Suellen was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Robert and Frances Haislip, and uncles, Alex and Jeff Haislip, as well as her paternal grandparents, Melvin and Martha Crisp and Uncle Jess Crisp. She was also preceded in death by her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bill and Mary Leonard, and her uncle-in-law, Bo Ludwig.

The service of remembrance will be held on Saturday, March 23, at 2 p.m., at Glad Tidings Church, in Morehead City, with visitation following the service. For those unable to attend, the service can be viewed through her obituary page on Munden Funeral Home’s website. The service will remain on the Funeral Home website for 90 days.
