Steven Smalley

Service Information Update: His funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, January 22nd, at Munden Funeral Home. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service.

Smalley, 60, of Bogue, passed away Sunday, January 16, 2022, at Post Acute Medical of Rocky Mount.

Steven was born on November 15, 1961, to the late Joanne Hustava. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio and grew up in Marianna, Pennsylvania. Following high school, he honorably served 12 years in the United States Navy.

As a nuclear engineer, Steven did research and developed the processes, instruments, and systems used to derive benefits from nuclear energy and radiation. His life’s work at Exelon Nuclear in LaSalle, Illinois, was quite fulfilling. In 2017, he and his late wife, Sheri, made the move to the beautiful Crystal Coast where he enjoyed his favorite hobbies of golfing and fishing.

He is survived by his sons, Andrew Smalley and Jonathon Tindall, both of Bogue; sisters, Mary Febus and husband Chris of Medina, Ohio and Sherri Turner and husband Monty of Marianna, PA; brother, Jim Hustey and wife Danielle of Bentleyville, PA; grandchildren, Ever Tindall, Beau Tindall and Jesslyn O’Connor; mother-in-law, Betty H. Sweeney of New Bern, NC; sisters-in-law, Teresa Klotz of Grovetown, GA and Kelli Sweeney of Sarasota, FL; brother-in-law, John Sweeney and wife Kelli of Virginia Beach, VA; numerous nieces and nephews; and beloved English Bull Dog and best friend, Ozzie.
