Stephen “Steve” Edward James, 71, of Newport, passed away Friday, December 22, 2017 at Duke University Hospital.
There will be a graveside service on Thursday, December 28, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Gethsemane Memorial Park, officiated by Bishop Roland.
Steve was born and raised in Winston Salem. He honorable served his country in the United States Army, including a tour of the duty in Vietnam. He had a long career as a heavy equipment operator, and enjoyed building roads, golf courses and doing demolitions. Steve enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, especially on the boat and swimming in the pool. He was a wonderful and loving husband that will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife of 23 years Glenda James of the home; step-daughters, Tammi Brinson and husband, Frankie, of Emerald Isle, Tiffany Peede and husband, Robbie, of Kinston, Holly Altman and husband, Jamie, of Cape Carteret; step-son, Jay Stainback of Kenansville; brother, Frank James, and wife, Lynn, of Winston Salem; 12 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Mabel James.
The family will receive friends at the home.
