Stanley Lee Bird

Stanley Lee Bird, 84, of Harkers Island, died unexpectantly Thursday, January 1, 2015, at Carteret General Hospital.
A memorial service will be held 1:00 pm Saturday, January 3, 2015 at Munden Funeral Home Chapel with Sandy Mason officiating. At a later date a memorial service will be held in Oak Ridge, NC.
Stan retired as a Lieutenant Commander of the United States Navy Reserve after 20 years of service. He was a fighter pilot, and a Air and Sea Rescue Helicopter pilot. He also was an avid fisherman, and moved to Harkers Island to be near the sea.
He is survived by a daughter Lee Ann Browning; two sons Mitch Bird and wife Ann, and Alan Bird and wife Carlin; four grandchildren Kevin Browning, Dana Wells, Liz Bird, and Dylan Bird; four great grandchildren; a sister Shielah Handt and husband Willis; and his dog Obi.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years Philis Bird, a sister Shirley Bird, a son in-law Wilson Browning, and his parents Wendell and Ann Bird.
