Stacy McVae Davis, Sr.

December 17, 1923 — February 23, 2014

Stacy McVae Davis, 90 of Harkers Island, died Sunday, February 23, 2014 at Heritage Health Care at Taylor Place.

A funeral will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, February 27 at Munden Funeral Home with Rev. Earl Boyd, Sr. officiating.  Graveside service will follow at the Polly Ann Cemetery on Harkers Island.

Mr. Davis proudly served his country in WWII.  He served in both the US Army and the US Coast Guard.  He holds four bronze stars and a victory medal as well as a good conduct medal all from serving in WWII.  He witnessed the signing of the peace treaty ending WWII. Mr. Davis joined the Masons and was a brother of the Franklin Lodge in Beaufort.  He was also a member of the Shriners and had his 32 Degree Scottish Rite. Throughout his life he was employed as a commercial fisherman and a crew leader at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point.  He also worked with the NC Ferry Division for 19 years where he eventually became Captain and operated one of the ferries from Cedar Island to Ocracoke named the Pamlico.

He is survived by wife of 67 years, Anna Kay Davis; daughters Becky Cummings of Beaufort, Sandra Gaskill and husband Elbert of Harkers Island; sons McVae Davis and wife Lori of Williston, Jeffrey Davis and wife Chris of Beaufort, Stacy Davis, Jr and wife Kim of Morehead City; brothers Sonny Davis of Morehead City and Clark Davis of Harkers Island; sisters Rebecca Willis, Leona Hall and Dare Guthrie of Harkers Island. He has 12 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his mother Sara Davis and father Stacy W. Davis, brothers Bertram Davis, Jack Davis and Oliver Davis; sisters Hilda Willis, Ella Willis and Sara Jarvis.
