Sid A. Horton, 76, of Morehead City, passed away on Saturday, March 26, 2022, at his home.

A celebration of life will also be scheduled for later this year. For those unable to attend, the service can be viewed through his obituary page on Munden Funeral Home’s website. The service will remain on the Funeral Home website for 90 days. (See link below for the Service Bulletin including the Order of Service.)
Sid was born on February 25, 1946, in Morehead City, North Carolina, to the late S.A. “Red” Horton and Pansy Horton Bordeaux. After high school, he continued his education at McAllister Institute of Mortuary Science in New York City where he obtained his Funeral Director’s License. Returning to his beloved home in Carteret County, he worked with Munden Funeral Home in the early 70’s. Sid’s love for the coast and being near the water led him into a different career path where he became a Merchant Marine working as a Longshoreman for 24 dedicated years. Always ready for something new, after retiring as a Longshoremen, he kept busy working for the North Carolina Ferry Division.
Knowing Sid, you’d know he always had a quick wit and colorful humor. He didn’t meet a stranger and his fun personality always left an impression. Sid enjoyed his drinking buddies at Raps Restaurant where he always had a great time, he was known to make a few bets along the way which made life even more interesting.
Fishing was one of his favorite outdoor activities. In true Sid fashion, he and his friend Clifford had an annual tournament with just the two of them. Each year they’d see who would hook the most flounder and trout and when done they’d present the winner a trophy.
Sid enjoyed the families in our community and was always ready to lend a helping hand volunteering with Meals on Wheels which brought great satisfaction and happiness to his day.
He is survived by his wife, Theresa Horton of the home; daughter, Courtney Horton of Wilmington; grandson, Adam Stone; and nephews, Benji Horton (Laura) and Vic Horton (Kylie), all of Beaufort.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Ben Horton; close fishing buddy, Gordon Canfield; and faithful dog, Peanut.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Meals on Wheels, 1209 Arendell St., Morehead City, NC 28557, Martha’s Mission Cupboard, P.O. Box 603, Morehead City, NC 28557, or Food Bank of Eastern North Carolina, 1924 Capital Blvd., Raleigh NC 27604.
