Shirley Ann Virginia (Maddux) Robinson

April 8, 1931 — September 6, 2014

Shirley Ann Virginia Maddux Robinson, 83, of Morehead City, passed away Saturday, September 6, 2014 at Crystal Coast Hospice House of Newport.

A service in celebration and thanksgiving of her life will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday at First Baptist Church in Morehead City with Dr. Nate Leonard, pastor and Rev. Darrell Williams officiating. Interment will follow at Gethsemane Memorial Park.

She was born April 8, 1931 in Wilmington, Delaware to the late George and Catherine Knapp Maddux. She was married for 49 years to William B. Robinson, Jr. until his death in January, 1997.

She was a lifetime member of the Baptist Faith, her membership began with the Missionary Baptist Church in Atlantic before moving to Morehead City in 1963 where she continued membership at First Baptist Church. She loved working in the church and helping her church family.

She is survived by a daughter, Susan Robinson Laughton of Raleigh; two sons, William B. "Bill" Robinson, III and wife Diane of Newport, and Robert Alan Robinson and wife Sharon of Morehead City; four grandsons, William B. "Rob" Robinson, IV and wife Ann-Marie of Newport, Christian Kenneth Robinson and wife JoAnna of Wake Forrest, Joshua Ross Robinson and wife Nancy of Newport, and Daniel Adam Robinson and wife Lisa of Charleston, SC; and three granddaughters, Stacy Laughton Harris and husband Nathaniel of Raleigh, Sara Laughton Boychak and husband Mark of Chapel Hill, and Shelley Kay Laughton of Raleigh. There are seven great-grandchildren, Jacqueline Robinson, Allison Robinson, Luke Robinson, Carman Robinson, Ava Robinson, Carson Robinson, and Emily Robinson.

She was preceded in death by her thirteen year old son, Kenneth Robinson who died from muscular dystrophy, her sister, Evelyn Haslam of New Castle, Delaware and two brothers, George and Frederick Maddux of Wilmington, Delaware.

Shirley was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She loved God, her church, bowling, little children, animals and anything Disney. Music was her passion and she sang constantly. She loved working at Rose's Department Store and meeting people.

Visitation will be 6:00 - 8:00 pm Wednesday at Munden Funeral Home.
