Shirley Denning Conekin, 84, of Emerald Isle, passed away on Sunday, October 2, 2022, at her home surrounded by her loving family.
The family will celebrate her life privately.
Shirley was born on August 16, 1938, in Goldsboro, North Carolina, to the late Arthur and Minnie Denning. She was a dedicated employee of the Goldsboro City School System where she worked in a secretarial role for 30 years. In addition to her full-time position there, Shirley was the co-owner of Conekin's Shoe Store in downtown Goldsboro.
In 1993, she made the move to the Crystal Coast where she enjoyed living in Emerald Isle. Shirley will be remembered for her faith and love of the Lord, as well as her devotion and deep love for her family.
She is survived by her sons, Dr. G. M. Conekin III and wife LuLu of Emerald Isle, Stephen Conekin and wife Caroline of New Bern and Jeff Conekin of Emerald Isle; stepbrother, Victor Denning Jr. of High Point; and grandchildren, Ivy Conekin, Drew Conekin, Blake Conekin, and Camden Conekin.
In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her first husband, Morris Conekin Jr.; second husband, J.C. Bell; sister, Toby Hirst; and stepson, John Calvin Bell Jr.
