Sheryl Fick, 69, of Newport, passed away on Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at UNC Hospital, Chapel Hill.

The family will host an open informal dinner and memorial on Sunday, April 2nd at 2PM at The Broad and Gales Creek Community building, 110 Cactus St., Newport. (Broad Creek)

Sheryl "Sherry" Gloria Fick was born January 5, 1948 to Richard and June Neff of Concord, New Hampshire. She was later raised by her loving stepmother Kay Neff and her father Richard. Sherry married the love of her life, Marvin Everett Fick, on April 17, 1965 at the tender age of 17. Sherry was the wife of a Marine. A job she managed well for 28 years through all the deployments and moves that a military lifestyle demanded.

Sherry and her husband "Marv" raised four children. Those children went on to bring 11 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren with another one due to arrive in August. Sherry was very involved in the caretaking of her grandchildren. She was a very loving and nurturing mother figure to all of them and then some. Her family was everything to her.

Sherry was an active league bowler for over a decade. She was well known and loved within the bowling alley, the leagues, and by other patrons of the sport. She was very invested in her grandchildren's participation in bowling and annually contributed to a special scholarship program for each of them during their youth bowling years.

Sherry was employed by Morehead City Kmart for over 12 years. She was the store's beloved "Ms. Sherry" She liked working in several different areas of the store and always gave them her best. She enjoyed friendships with her coworkers and maintained relationships past her retirement in October 2014.

After retiring Sherry enjoyed spending time in her flower garden. She loved playing in the dirt and planting beautiful flowers. It became her pride and joy. She was particularly proud of her green thumb and loved showing everyone who came by the beautiful little garden she had nurtured into existence.

Sherry loved life and lived to appreciate every moment she had, especially with her loved ones. She passed away peacefully after a hard-fought illness surrounded by family. She will be greatly missed by many.

Sherry is survived by her husband of nearly 52 years, Marvin Fick, of the home; daughters, Kathleen Fick of the home, Kathrine Franklin of Atlantic Beach; sons Keith Fick and significant other, Leslie Lewis, of Newport, NC, Michael Fick and wife Kelly Fick, of Broad Creek; sister, Joann (Jojo) Sylvester of Lake Elsinore, CA; grandchildren Anthony Perez, Michael Lewis, Mikayla Fick, Robert Perez, Jonathan Fick, Amanda Perez, Emily Pittman, Brittanie Fick, Quentin Fick, and Brandon Fick; great-grandchildren, Landon Hill, Khalila Lewis, Waylon Wallace, Lainie Hill, Corbin Pittman, Khamony Lewis, Vivian Perez, and another is due to arrive in August; many beloved in-laws’ nieces, nephews and cousins across the country; a dear friend, Mary Combes of Newport.

She is preceded in death by her mothers; June Neff and Kay Neff; father, Richard Neff; brother, Scott Bissonnette; granddaughter, Rachel Perez.
