Shelly Marie Riggs-Whitehead, 42, of Beaufort, North Carolina, tragically passed away on Friday, March 1, 2024.
A memorial service to honor Shelly’s life will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, March 23rd at Munden Funeral Home, officiated by her uncle, Tim Robinson. Interment will follow at Greenleaf Memorial Park in New Bern. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. prior to the memorial service.
Shelly was born on October 11, 1981, in New Bern, North Carolina. Her early years were spent in New Bern until the age of 12 when her family moved to Carteret County. Shelly was a graduate of West Carteret High School with the Class of 1999.
Shelly had a special love for the Outer Banks, specifically Portsmouth Island, where she enjoyed camping, fishing and the simple joys of life. More than anything, her world revolved around treasured moments spent with her loved ones. Her love for her family knew no bounds and she was a dedicated wife, loving mother, wonderful daughter, and loyal sister.
Shelly had an exceptional love for all animals. Especially her faithful companion, her Boykin Spaniel, Miley Banks aka “Baby Girl”, who joined her in heaven.
Those remaining to cherish her memory are her devoted husband of 19 years, Corey Whitehead; son, Mason Alan Whitehead of Beaufort; mother and step-father, Sandy and Jesse Franks of New Bern; step-mother, Linda Riggs of Beaufort; siblings, Chris Riggs (Alisha) of New Bern, Cody Franks (Laura) of Kill Devil Hills, Tracie Brown (Jason) of New Bern, and Summer Bohm (David) of Apex; mother-in-law, Cindy Whitehead of Beaufort; sister-in-law, Amanda Whitehead of Beaufort; and nieces and nephews, Abigail Brown, Jared Brown, Olivia Riggs, Benjamin Boyd, Harper Boyd, Maxton Bohm, and Mattie Bohm.
Shelly was preceded in death by her father, Kenneth "Gene" Riggs Jr.; and father-in-law, Glen Whitehead.
