Shelby Jean Tessier, 84, of Newport, North Carolina, passed away on Friday, May 3, 2024, at ECU Health Medical Center.
A memorial service to honor Shelby’s life will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, May 22, at St. Peter’s United Methodist Church, officiated by Rev. Karl Zorowski.
Shelby was born on February 5, 1940, in Raven, Kentucky, to the late Dewey and Pearlie Gibson. She was a cherished member of the Garden Club of Newport and a devoted member of the Sisters in Christ at St. Peter’s Church. Shelby was a dedicated and loving wife to her beloved husband Eugene. As their family expanded over the years, Shelby embraced her role as a nurturing and caring mother.
In her earlier years when she worked outside the home, she found joy in her sales position at Henry Tackle and Sporting Goods. In her spare time, she found joy in gardening, cooking, decorating homes, and lovingly keeping her husband in line. Shelby will be deeply missed by all who knew her and loved her.
Those remaining to cherish her memory are her husband, Gene Tessier of the home; son, Ernest Alsop of Stevensville, MD; and grandchild, Erin Alsop.
In addition to her parents, Shelby was preceded in death by her sisters, June Davis, Ora Sawyer, Bonnie Harris, and Eva Blankenship; brothers, Cantrell Gibson, Delano Gibson, and Ernest Gibson; and her favorite cat, Velvet.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Peter’s United Methodist Church, 111 Hodges Street, Morehead City, N.C. 28557.
