Harkers Island

Sharon Kay Guthrie, 80, of Harkers Island, passed away on Tuesday, November 16, 2021, at Pruitt Health - Sea Level.

Her funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, November 19th, at Grace Holiness Church on Harkers Island. Interment will follow at Armecia Lewis Family Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday, November 18th, at Grace Holiness Church.

Sharon, or Kay as she was most fondly known, was born on Harkers Island, April 12,1941, to the late Johnny and Helen Lewis and was a graduate of Smyrna High School. She enjoyed her role as wife and mother where she excelled in her love for her family. As a strong Christian woman, she lived out the truths of a Godly woman which are found in Proverbs 31. Always, one to have a song in her heart, she joyfully shared her gift of singing at her home church, Grace Holiness Church on Harkers Island where she was a faithful member. Teaching Sunday School was another area of ministry where she touched many lives. One of her favorite ministries though was being in the Grace Holiness Trio, visiting other churches and sharing her love for the Lord with other believers.

Kay’s kind, patient and caring demeanor was a blessing to all. Most notably, she was a caregiver to her late parents and to her late husband Perry. The love she extended while she cared for them was immeasurable. Being Nanny to her granddaughter, Savannah Kay, was a special joy that she treasured.

She is survived by her daughter, Rhoda Gillikin and husband Algernon of Harkers Island; grandchildren, Savannah Kay Gillikin and Christopher Josh Boudreau and wife Lara, all of Harkers Island; great-granddaughter, Julia Boudreau; brother, Denny Lewis of Harkers Island; nieces and nephew, Tim Gillikin and wife Cathy of Harkers Island, Cheryl Lewis of Morehead City, Belinda House, Vangie Lewis, and Dena Lewis.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jay Perry Guthrie; sister, Faye Gillikin; and brother, John Lewis.

As an expression of sympathy, flowers are welcome.
