Sgt. Major John "Rip" Winston Collins

Sgt. Major John “Rip” Winston Collins, 85, of Morehead City, passed away Thursday, August 10, 2017 due to a battle with cancer.
Rip served 30 years in the Marine Corps., serving at 8th & 1 in Washington, DC. He served in Korea in 1950 and served 2 tours in Vietnam. Rip received several awards for his service to our country.
He is survived by his wife Freddie of the home; sons, Harvey Ellis and wife Sara of Cape Carteret, and Rodney Ellis and wife Shirley of Morehead City; 2 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents John and Julia Collins; and his son, Timothy Collins Ellis.
Burial will be at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville at a later date.
