SGM Ronald “Ron” Hemenway, retired U.S. Army, 67, of Havelock, passed peacefully at home on Friday, July 6, 2018, with his wife and children by his side, after a long illness.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, July 11, 2018, at 11 a.m. at Annunciation Catholic Church in Havelock, with the Rev. Bill Upah presiding. Inurnment will be at Arlington National Cemetery, with military honors, at a later date.
Ron was born in Cuba, NY on August 16, 1950. Served in Vietnam for two years, earning many medals including Bronze Star and NYS Medal of Valor. He lived in Albany, NY and was the Recruiting and Retention SGM for the state of NY, retiring to NC in 1993 after 26 years of service. He was a Tool and Parts Specialist for DLA at Cherry Point, NC and volunteered for multiple tours in Al Asad, Iraq.
Ron is survived by his wife of 47 years, Paula Ann Goitz Hemenway; daughter, Bridget Floyd and husband, Justin; son, Michael Hemenway and wife, Ester Zita; granddaughters, Joslyn and Jane Floyd; brothers, Dale Hemenway and wife, Elizabeth, Shawn Hemenway and wife, Teresa, Michael Hemenway and wife, Shalla, David Hemenway and wife, Victoria; stepmother, Shirley Hemenway; mother-in-law, Lucy M. Goitz; sisters-in-law, Dorothy DeRuscio and husband, Michael, Rose Marie Fusco and husband, Ralph; and several nieces, nephews, step-brothers and step-sisters.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert D. Hemenway; father-in-law, Michael E. Goitz; and mother; Roseleah Holden.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 11, 2018, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Annunciation Catholic Church in Havelock.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Community Home Care and Hospice at 1423 S. Glenburnie Road, New Bern, NC 28562.
